Governor DeSantis Includes $4.3 Million in Florida’s Budget
to Replace the Plant
June 15, 2021, Naples, Florida – On June 2, 2021, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed the HB 5001: General Appropriations Act resulting in funding for the replacement of the City of Everglades City’s Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Local government relations lawyers at Woodward, Pires & Lombardo, P.A. (WPL) have had the honor to represent and work on behalf of the City of Everglades City (City) since 2017, primarily to help pave the way to replace and fund the new wastewater treatment plant. Working with the City on wastewater issues are WPL attorneys Lenore Brakefield, Zachary Lombardo and Everglades City Attorney, Chris Lombardo.
WPL began this representation of the City in its litigation with the Department of Environmental Protection and negotiating a consent final judgment that laid out the road map for resolving the threat that the City’s aging wastewater infrastructure posed to the Everglades. WPL then assisted the City with compliance and funding sources for a new plant.
City Attorney Chris Lombardo states,
“It is exciting and inspiring to see so many work well together to solve an important challenge for the Everglades and its communities. Not just our law firm, but also the representatives of the City of Everglades City, the Mayor, the members of the Council, the City Clerk, U.S. Representative Diaz-Balart and Senator Passidomo”.
Attorney Zach Lombardo commented,
“This has been a project City Attorney Chris Lombardo, Lenore Brakefield, and I have had the honor to work on for years, and I could not be happier and prouder. This is a major milestone in protecting the Western Everglades.”
